Full Job Description

Job summary: To work as a key person and as part of the early years team under the direction of the settings Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children, maintaining a stimulating and enjoyable environment which provides quality play, care and education within the framework of the settings policies and procedures.

Main duties include:

  • Planning, preparing and delivering quality teaching opportunities using the EYFS framework effectively, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation within a safe and caring environment.

  • To act as a key person to a group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers maintaining strong partnerships and communication ensuring that the individual needs and interests of children in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members) .

  • To keep records of your key children's development and learning journeys on Learning Book to share with parents, carers and other key adults in the child's life.

  • To meet all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage and subsequently any legal documents referred to within the EYFS framework.

  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories. Familiarising yourself with relevant play and learning intervention plans that are in place.

  • To advise manager / deputy of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job

  • Administering first aid when necessary.

  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc ensuring that hygiene, health and safety standards are met, Monitoring and maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment at all times.

  • Developing and maintaining good communication with all members of the company, parents, schools, CWAC and Ofsted.

  • To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the setting's philosophy is fulfilled.

  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.

  • Undertake appropriate and relevant training.

  • To attend and be involved in staff meetings on a regular basis.

  • To read, understand and adhere to all of the company's policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.

  • To undertake supervision meetings with your line Manager

    Experience of working with 0 to 4 year olds

  • Experience of delivering equal opportunities in an early years setting

  • Experience of working with children and families

  • Appropriate Level 2 qualification or greater.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation stage

  • Ability to work as a team member

  • Ability to communicate well with adults and children

  • Ability to work on own initiative, using judgement and common sense
