Full Job Description

As our next School Crossing Patrol Warden, you'll play a vital role in keeping children safe as they arrive at and depart from school.

You'll be an integral member of our School Crossing Patrol Team, with support from your supervisor. Although you'll work on your own, you will interact with members of the public including parents, children, school staff and passers-by.

You will give clear signals to drivers and pedestrians using the school crossing patrol pole to help children and adults cross the road safely. You will communicate effectively with children waiting to cross the road to ensure they wait for your help before stepping out., To assist pedestrians to safely cross the road at a specific site during specified hours of the morning and/or afternoon.,

  • Adhere to issued work instructions on the operation of the crossing site in line with approved procedures.

  • Stop vehicles using the Crossing Patrol 'Stop' sign, to allow children and other pedestrians to cross safely at an established crossing patrol site.

  • Check the operation of flashing amber warning lights and reporting faults if necessary.

  • Report to the Senior Supervisor any traffic offence or problem which affects the safety of the warden or pedestrians using the crossing site.

  • Judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic before stepping into the road.

  • Communicate clearly and courteously with children, parents, motorists, and the general public.

  • Be alert and observant at all times.

  • Be enthusiastic about the job and help to promote the service in a positive manner.

  • Use initiative and be responsible and tolerant.

  • Maintain a good working relationship with colleagues, adult and child pedestrians, Head teachers and school staff.

  • A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check against the Children's barred list will be carried out on preferred candidates., Qualifications: No formal qualifications are required

    Essential Requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria. Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.
  • Able to wear the appropriate uniform.

  • Able to work outdoors in all weathers in a job which involves standing or walking for entire period.

  • Able to work split duty working both mornings and afternoons.

  • Able to work during school hours term time only.

  • Able to work using own initiative with a responsible and tolerant approach to the job.
