Full Job Description

The post holder would be expected to support the cancer services across a wide range of tumour sites. However, if the candidate has a special interest in certain tumour sites, it could be considered as part of the job plan.
The job plan will be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a Specialist Grade professional practice including clinical work, research and education. In addition, it will include personal objectives, details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the doctor to fulfil the job plan and the objectives., Specialist Grades are required to have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments. They are expected to undertake administrative duties that arise from these responsibilities.
10 PA's will be offered. A minimum of 8.5 PA's will be for direct patient care and 1.5 PA's for SPA. Expected commitments will include:
Multi-disciplinary ward meeting
New patient clinics
One or more chemotherapy review clinics
One or more follow-up clinics
Support to Radiotherapy units and Chemotherapy day units
Ward consultations
Other ward rounds
Attendance at relevant site-specific MDTs
Audit, research, CPD, appraisal and revalidation
In addition for Specialist doctor role:
Acute oncology service support (one or more sessions)
Expertise in clinical procedures such as pleural and ascitic drain placement would be beneficial
Independent clinics

There's a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children's Unit.
