Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Budget Accounting Technician to join the Finance Department of Wiltshire Police based at Devizes Headquarters. This is offered on a permanent contract basis.

The Finance Department brings together the statutory accounts for the Force and sets and subsequently monitors the revenue and capital budgets.

The Budget Accounting Technician provides a professional accounting service to the Force, giving financial advice both internally & externally. The role will assist in the preparation of the annual budget both subjectively and objectively, medium long term plan and will assist with the closure of the accounts. Working closely with budget holders the Accounting Technician will monitor spend, establishment and purchasing activity for the budget holder's portfolio, influencing and advising the budget holder.,

  • A copy of your paper driving licence counterpart (Northern Ireland only)

  • A copy of your British Passport or birth certificate (if a candidate does not have a passport, then they may use their birth certificate, but will need to provide a copy of a British passport once they have obtained one.)

  • Copies of your qualifications relating to English and Maths (only). If applying for the Degree Holder Police Constable Apprenticeship, you will need a copy of your Degree Certificate.

  • Clear, colour photos of any non-intimate tattoos

  • Formal translation from a reputable source for any foreign language or symbol tattoos

  • Any paperwork relating to discharged debts, CCJ, bankruptcy etc

  • Deed poll certificate for any name changes

    The successful candidate will be qualified at AAT Technician level/part qualified Accountant or have similar experience. Previous experience of working in a financial role, setting and monitoring budgets and technical experience of financial management systems are essential.


  • The right individual must have excellent communication skills, be confident and have the ability to be assertive when required to ensure that the tasks are completed satisfactorily.

    If you are successful but not the highest scoring applicant you will be placed on a 6 month bank for any future vacancies that could arise.

    Permanent Contract - Full time - 37 Hours per week (Monday-Friday 08.00-16.00)
