Full Job Description

The OT Standards Engineer - Protection & Control is the source of engineering policy, standardised equipment and configurations for the protection and automation of our distribution network.

You'll be responsible for the development, reviewing and maintaining our standards, specification and technical assurance for all protection and automation equipment whilst ensuring compliance with company policy, licence conditions, national and international standards across distribution from LV to 132kV.

Working as part of the Operational Technology Standards Team, with other engineers looking at SCADA and Automation systems you'll help to deliver a coherent, digitised, control system for our substations as we work to deliver Net Zero.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

- Create specifications for protection and automation solutions, and maintain a list of approved equipment & designs for the same.

- Be flexible to work on, and learn, wider Operational Technology systems including RTUs, SCADA, PLCs and communications systems.

- Manage OT-related investment projects to develop new & innovative solutions, and manage/upgrade existing OT equipment in line with asset management plans.

- Develop automation, protection, real-time systems and telecommunications into a cohesive Operational Technology solution.

- Provide support to the wider business to achieve the DSO transition through the effective use of Operational Technology.

Deep knowledge of the operation of electricity distribution networks, and a good understanding of statutory, regulatory & licence requirements, industry codes, networks and engineering standards.

- Extensive experience of designing and/or commissioning protection and automation systems on power distribution networks, familiarity with typical UK distribution network operator practice is preferable.

- Be able to develop and implement engineering strategy and be motivated and driven to succeed.

- Have an understanding of the governance applied to safety critical engineering processes and a thorough understanding of Risk Assessment and mitigations applied to the same.

- Be an excellent team player, and be comfortable engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business and externally - often communicating complex technical issues to a non-technical audience.

Salary: £62,324 - £71,370 + car / car allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
