Full Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Workshop Manager to oversee our workshop operations and ensure the efficient and effective completion of projects. The Workshop Manager will be responsible for managing a team of technicians, coordinating workflow, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality work. This is a hands-on role that requires strong mechanical knowledge and expertise in working with power tools and hand tools.

The role offered is for a workshop manager focusing on the operations and team working within our busy workshop and externally with our mobile repair services. It will be based within our main workshop, shop and may occasionally include visiting mobile repair areas.

We are looking for someone who wants to develop their career within the cycle industry and bring their skillset to a forward-thinking cycle business. The role will entail working directly within our busy workshop, repairing bikes, overseeing quality assurance, assisting apprentices and all other team members with their continued development, and also assisting the mobile bike mechanics at various off-site events - where we bring our professional workshop to external locations.

We believe in embracing new technology and developing individuals, we are the only workshop in Oxford who has all staff members either trained to Cytech Level 3 standard or on a training path towards the accreditation. We are fully accredited with other external manufacturer training and currently are Oxfords only certified Shimano Service Centre. This role will include ensuring the high standards are maintained

We specialise in all types of bikes and cycling, and we get to see all of the latest product on the market as well as very early technology. We take pride in being able to fix anything.

We are more than a bike shop offering a mixture of services both internally and externally from our shop location. These services include, retail sales, workshop repairs, cycle hire, cycle tours, cycle holidays, business pool bikes, retail bike share schemes, mobile repair / bike dr services.

Our current new bike brands include; Brompton, Scott, Raleigh, Pashley, Kona, Gazelle, Dawes, Claud Butler, Roland & PUKY but take pride in being able to fix anything.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise a team of technicians, providing guidance and support as needed

  • Coordinate daily workflow, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion of projects

  • Monitor inventory levels and order necessary supplies and materials

  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions to ensure smooth operations

  • Train new technicians on proper use of tools, equipment, and safety procedures

  • Maintaining hire bike fleet

  • Reconditing used bikes

  • Liaising with customers about their requirements (both repairs and sales)

  • Workshop marketing

  • Maintaining workshop targets

  • Overseeing workshop & mobile repair staff members

  • Working within management team

  • Assisting customers find the best solution for their cycling requirements

  • Assisting cycle tours and cycle rentals

  • Maintaining supplier accreditions

  • Overseeing staff training & development both internally and externally

  • Managing workshop pricing

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless coordination and customer satisfaction

    Proven experience as a Workshop Manager or similar role

  • Strong mechanical knowledge and proficiency in working with power tools and hand tools

  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team

  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, mechanical: 2 years (required)

  • workshop manager: 1 year (preferred)
