Engineering Buyer, permanent, full-time

Location - Chalgrove, Oxfordshire

We have a flexible hybrid model where we expect everyone to work in our Chalgrove office in Oxfordshire at least 3 days per week. This is to continue building relationships, collaborating and developing our team.

Main purpose of the job

To provide purchasing support and guidance for E3D Projects, as the key interface between Supply Chain and Engineering.

Who you are responsible to:

This role reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

Main tasks of the job

1. Purchase goods, materials, components or services in accordance with specified technical, quality and delivery requirements.

2. Interface with other departments and suppliers for all matters related to the procurement of Project materials, equipment and sub-contract services.

3. Provide procurement support for new designs, and when necessary, participate in bid reviews and evaluations.

4. Lead order book reviews with designated suppliers to identify performance improvements.

5. Attend Project meetings as and when required to represent the supply chain team, taking ownership of tasks accordingly.

6. Liaise closely with the engineering team, jointly mapping out product BOMs, taking a collaborative approach to supplier meetings and ensuring the accuracy and relevance of project overview spreadsheets.

7. Collaborate with the production team, scoping out delivery timelines and ensuring that all project costs are correctly captured.

8. Support the Procurement department by pursuing closer integration and improved communication with Engineering.

9. Negotiate contracts, improved pricing, and terms of business with suppliers. Review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.

10. Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and considering

organisational targets and requirements.

11. Manage internal customer expectations regarding timely execution of RFQ release and processing of internal documents.

12. Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities.

13. Support Engineering Change Requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans.

14. Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers.

15. Maintain vendor/supplier quality documents to support ISO standards and ensure up-to-date vendor files for analysis.

16. Manage invoice reconciliations, RFQ management, system database review and regular inventory reporting.

17. Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures in line with the QMS.

18. Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of required

products and materials, and advise others of any impact.

19. Support and coach colleagues within the department to enhance their knowledge base and contribute to their professional development.

20. Always ensure good and clear communication with stakeholders.

21. Follow all Health and safety instructions, given both verbally, and set out within the company health and safety policy. Always seek instruction on using unfamiliar machines and use all appropriate PPE.

22. You are responsible for your own safety, and the health and safety of others around you. If you need extra training, you must make your line manager aware, and never conduct work in an unsafe manner.

  • Solid experience as a Buyer or Supply Chain equivalent

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Clear communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Highly organised


  • Desirable skills and experience
  • CIPS qualified or studying CIPS

  • Experience of a similar industry

  • Knowledge of ERP and forecasting systems
