Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Manager to ensure Activate Learning's adherence to health and safety regulations across the group.

Responsible for management of the Health and Safety Department, you'll line manage and facilitate a collaborative and high-performance work environment, delivering strategic direction and leadership for the effective implementation of health and safety policies and procedures. Alongside the team you'll also offer guidance to Property & Estates (P&E) and other departmental Managers on statutory inspection compliance, emphasising a proactive approach to risk management.

You'll lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive health and safety advisory, training, and compliance service, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Group. You'll work with external stakeholders such as the HSE, Local Authorities and union representatives to ensure our arrangements are suitable and seek expert advice where required.

Applicants for this role will have the following necessary qualifications or equivalents at the same level:

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Risk and Safety Management

  • Health and Safety Trainer Qualification

  • Minimum Level 6 in Occupational health and Safety, or working towards

  • Minimum CertIOSH grade (GradIOSH) or equivalent of a H&S Professional body, or working towards


  • Alongside these you should be an accomplished health and safety professional with significant experience of advising on health and safety in an organisiation with a broad risk profile, including current legislation covering asbestos, CDM and fire regulations, as well as Health Surveillance.

    We're looking for candidates who have the skills to coach, mentor and train employees at all levels of the business. You should be able to influence policy, procedure and best practice through effective communication to a variety of audiences. As this role will require working with internal and external stakeholders at various levels, you'll need to have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong working relationships.

    You will need to be able to drive to support sites across the group as required.
