Full Job Description

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

In this role you will be working on Operation Bramber. This is an investigation into potential offences of Gross Negligence Manslaughter and Corporate Manslaughter by Gross Negligence in a healthcare setting.

You will be part of a team of Detectives and Investigators involved in the investigation. You will be based at Centenary House in Worthing, West Sussex.

HOLMES is the specialist police database system that is used to support Major Crime investigations from the outset of the enquiry through to court prosecution and any subsequent appeals against conviction.

You will be responsible for processing large volumes of documentation generated during the course of this enquiry. The Indexer is responsible for placing information contained within these documents into different indices and categories, and index linking common factors.

Successful candidates must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to prioritise work effectively in order to meet deadlines. In addition the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • Well developed computer and keyboard skills

  • An ability to input and check data with close attention to detail

  • Research experience

  • Working as part of a team


  • Given the close proximity and high level of access to sensitive information, the post-holder must possess the highest professional and ethical standards.

    The candidate will be subject to force vetting procedures and must be prepared to deal with distressing information in the course of their duties.

    This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

    Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

    Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

    The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
