Full Job Description

Are you looking for a flexible job supporting people in your local community? We are looking to recruit two individuals to become our Macmillan Village Agents in the Fenland area.

Our Macmillan Village Agents provide help, support and solutions for the health and social care needs of members of the community experiencing cancer, through engagement with local neighbourhood volunteers, health and care sector, statutory and voluntary organisations.

You will be providing support to community members experiencing cancer or their carers, who self-refer to receive practical, emotional and social support, either by telephone, online, or in person at home. The role may involve entering people's homes but it is not a personal caring role. You will build and maintain a good understanding of cancer pathways, services and support available to people across Fenland and then create your own local networks in the area in which you work so that people experiencing cancer see you as a credible source of support and trust you to help them. You will work with Macmillan to lead the recruitment, induction and training of Community Cancer Champion Volunteers who work at a hyper-local level to provide additional support to people experiencing cancer. The ability to observe client confidentiality is a must and you will need to keep accurate and comprehensive records of your contact with clients on a system provided.

The job is flexible to fit around personal/family commitments; Macmillan Village Agents will work 21 hours per week, with days to be determined by agreement.

The salary is £14,576 per year for a 21 hour working week. A laptop and phone are provided and, as a home-based role, you must have access to a dedicated work area and internet access. Full training and support will be provided but you must have a good knowledge of the local community and the district. A willingness to learn how best to support people going through a difficult phase in their lives is paramount.

You must have empathy and patience with others; excellent communication skills; strong administration skills to be able to keep electronic records up-to-date; be self-managing and able to work alone; and be able to follow processes and procedures. You will also need good IT skills, a full driving licence and use of your own car. Travelling expenses will be paid.

Cambridgeshire ACRE is an independent, rural development charity that works across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We offer support, resources and specialist advice to communities and partners across a wide range of topic areas connected to rural community life.
