Full Job Description

Reporting to the finance director, the Management Accountant's role is to provide a well-rounded skillset, working in a small finance team and alongside a variety of departments within the company. The role will predominantly focus on the aspects of cost accounting, including costing products in support of bid & proposals, data analysis of sales & margins, setting department rates and maintaining the fixed asset register.
The Management Accountant will drive meaningful financial analysis by interrogating data and business systems to compile and create reports to Finance Stakeholders within the business. Accordingly, it is expected the role-holder will possess advanced excel and analytical skills, to be able to transform data into information and communicate to non-finance professionals within the business.
It is expected that drawing on previous professional and academic experience, the Management Accountant will bring a degree of challenge to the role, displaying a questioning mind and challenging assumptions provided to them by the wider business. The holder of the position should possess the desire to make improvements where required and seek professional and personal development opportunities at every step.
The Management Accountant will also play an important role in the implementation of Phase 2 of SAP, which will require a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to adapt to dynamic, pressured conditions.
Responsibilities and accountabilities are detailed by work stream below:
Project Accounting
Provide meaningful data analysis - Including Sales & Margin Variance analysis at a project level
Reconciliation and maintenance of appropriate Balance Sheet accounts
Business partnering with the wider business for project matters (Contract Admin, Programme Management, Engineering, Operations Management etc.)
Support audit requirements - internal & external
Primary contact for Innovate UK claims and audits
Journal entries associated with contracts - reclassifications, revenue deferral, application of accounting standards (ASC606)
Control and maintain an accurate fixed asset register
Capital expenditure project cost and financial expenditure monitoring
Budgeting / Forecasting
Utilising information and knowledge from the sales & margin process to update forecasting models for business activity
Costing products and setting department rates, talking internal customers through the process
Play an active role in business transformation activities
Other
Act as delegate for other member of the finance team as and when required
Engage with the cross-function site leadership team - including presentations in meetings and providing a voice for Finance
Seek to make improvements to processes and implement lean initiatives both within Finance and the wider business
Seek to gain experience and professional development opportunities by supporting the wider Finance Team in their duties - providing support and advice., This role will provide exposure to the Accounting team, which will in-turn involve working with confidential information. Accordingly, the holder of this position is expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality within their role.
The role of Management Accountant requires a range of soft skills as well as technical skills. This role entails significant interaction around the wider business, as well as internally within the local and global finance teams. Therefore, strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to perform this role effectively, as it will often entail interaction with others to ensure satisfactory job performance.

Previous experience working within accounting & finance - either in practice or industry - Essential
