An exciting opportunity has been made available for a Platform Engineer to join Santander within the T&O Infrastructure and Service Operations organisation, where you will provide leadership and coordination of staff and services within the IT Lifecycle (Obsolescence) Management team.

This role is part of the IT Risk Portfolio team which is under the Director of Operational Services. As the main hub of information regarding the resilience of our IT infrastructure, we monitor the health of the Bank's applications at a micro and macro level to ensure the degree of obsolescence is maintained within the Banks risk tolerance appetite and appropriate remedial actions are taken to maintain this position.

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership across a subset of functional / business areas managing a specific production system / platform and their ongoing activities or objectives.

The role holder will also lead more complex plans to develop compatible IT Infrastructure systems in line with organisational strategies.

The difference you'll make :

  • Coordinating the effective and timely management of hardware, operating systems and third-party software installed on server platforms

  • Ensuring that the most appropriate internal quality procedures, standards, and specifications that are the most appropriate for each technology are in place and looks to offer solutions to complex problems and situations

  • Planning and organise relevant technology improvements, defining specific platforms' strategy and project / resources requirements

  • Providing technical development and oversight for the implementation of infrastructure solutions, specialising in the design, and development of systems and infrastructures based on preferences and industry standards

  • Contributing towards design improvements that allow for more efficient support of the environment, applications, and customers

    Experience in System programming or system administration, with a focus on reliability, availability, and scalability

  • Knowledge and experience within or more of these technologies; Database Technology, Operating Systems, Web and WAS Technology or Messaging Software

  • Previous experience in technology deployments or large scale upgrade project which included Operating systems, database, Web and WAS technology

  • Incident management, being able to trouble-shoot problems and seek appropriate solutions whilst doing OS, DB Web and WAS upgrade

  • Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way

  • Solid knowledge and experience in MS Excel, ability to analyse data and manipulate information accordingly coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels


  • It would also be nice for you to have :
  • A strong understanding of API orchestration, combined with languages such as Python to implement automated solutions and interactions between core management services

  • Strong project management and analytical mindset that will be able to drive both the IT Risk Portfolio team and the broader Product team(s) to ensure focus on the obsolescence remediation project

  • Knowledge and skills within cloud technology is desirable in addition to one of the listed technologies that is fundamental to have

  • Large scale data centre assets to Cloud migration or migration of workload (OS. DB, Web WAS) from one data centre to another data centre
