Full Job Description

The Rothermere American Institute (RAI) seeks to appoint an experienced researcher, holding a PhD in a relevant subject area, to work on a new Leverhulme Trust project, "Conservativisms in an Age of Revolutions: The United States in an Atlantic World." The post is funded for two years from 1 September 2024.
This post is intended to provide a promising early career scholar with a congenial environment for the development of their research beyond the doctoral level. The post would especially suit someone who has research expertise in nineteenth-century United States political history or the history of ideas.
The project PI is Adam Smith, Edward Orsborn Professor of US Politics and Political History and Director of the RAI. You will be one of two research assistants working on the project alongside Professor Smith. A full description of the project, with details of the role to be played by this research assistant, is included in the job description (appendix 1).
The RAI is Oxford's centre for the study of the United States and its place in the world. Every year we host a full programme of research seminars and events which attract leading scholars and public figures from across the world. We have a lively and friendly community made up of our small administration team plus early career researchers, graduate students, Oxford academics, visiting fellows, and librarians. You will have the opportunity to be fully integrated into the RAI community.
Only applications received by midday on 20 May 2024 can be considered. Interviews are likely to be held week beginning 10 June 2024.
