  • They should have experience & knowledge of epilepsy and understand the challenges of complex neurological needs.

  • The post holder will be required to support staff with teaching and develop Epilepsy education in the community.

  • The postholder will be key at identifying potential development opportunities within the Epilepsy pathway and working with the Paediatric leadership team to implement these.

  • Ensuring a safe and successful transition for young people with complex epilepsy from the Paediatric Epilepsy Service to and adult health care setting, and empower them and alleviate the stress of the unknown. Transition programme and plan will help them to prepare, plan and achieve their own goals as they enter adult life., Facilitates good communication links between the young person with epilepsy and carers and others involved in the management of the child's epilepsy.

  • Deals with calls/queries and, following discussion and consultation with appropriate colleagues, communicates any plans to the person with epilepsy, their carer or other professionals as appropriate.

  • Provides individualised education and information to the person with epilepsy, their family and/or carers around epilepsy related issues e.g. management of epilepsy, lifestyle and recreation, safety etc.

  • Works autonomously to manage a caseload of patients, whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Enables the young person and carer's involvement in decisions about care and ensures the young person and their family are given appropriate verbal and written information regarding planned care.

  • Co-ordinates patient care pathways and liaises across organisational boundaries.

    Registered Nurse

  • A qualification that will enable mentorship of students

  • Evidence of teaching and training other members of the MDT

  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level, or able to demonstrate evidence that working towards

  • Academic development

  • Evidence of Leadership, Management and Speciality Development

  • Evidence of independent practice

  • Evidence of working within the MDT


  • Desirable criteria

  • Qualification in Epilepsy

  • Completed a History and Record-Taking Course.

  • Nurse prescriber.

  • Previous experience of working as a Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Experience of working with adolescents with a diagnosis of epilepsy, Experience, which includes work in post-qualification speciality

  • Must have recent clinical experience at Band 6

  • Experience in facilitation, teaching, assessing, coaching


  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of Leadership/Management

  • Experience at a Band 7

  • Evidence of working across community and hospital based setting

  • Detailed experience of Leadership/Management, Demonstrable transformational leadership ability

  • Expert clinical skills in speciality (or willingness to develop these)

    In partnership with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, we are seeking to recruit a marvellously motivated, engaging and energetic Paediatric Epilepsy nurse to support children, and their families, transition successfully to adult services. You will play a pivotal role in making a difference, improving patient care and patient experience, celebrating the positive impacts achieved and sharing learning widely.


  • The successful post holder will benefit from the many training opportunities and grants offered by the Roald Dahl Marvellous Children's Charity to support both the epilepsy transition service and their own professional development.

    The Paediatric Epilepsy Service currently includes Consultant Paediatricians with a special interest in epilepsy, Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse and Paediatric Neurologists alongside Adult Neurologists, Nurse Consultant and Epilepsy Nurse. We work in partnership with parents and carers, within a multiagency team for children and young people who have a diagnosis of epilepsy.

    The aim is to:
  • To improve the young person's experience of transition and that of their families in Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust by developing partnerships with them, along with the professionals from adult epilepsy/neurology/learning disabilities specialities.

  • To be Project Lead and Implement change and pathways in partnership with other Health Care Professionals., The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest District General Hospitals in the country.
