Full Job Description

As a Senior Buyer for our Christchurch location, you will proactively forge relationships with suppliers to exceed our end customer expectations. Introduce different ways of working with our suppliers to sustain continuity of supply e.g. consignment stock, vendor managed inventory etc. Contain and avoid material cost increases and achieve a year-on-year cost reduction within the defined area of responsibility.

This role requires a dynamic and energetic Senior Buyer capable of solving the root cause of problems and delivering the solution. They shall operate in a fast-paced environment and shall be capable of being flexible in managing and prioritising a number of issues. A highly varied role where contract knowledge, negotiation and influencing skills will be utilised.

The role also requires an individual who can span both day to day operational demands and strategic supply chain leadership.,

  • Purchase components as required and directed in line with requirements generated via the MRP system, ensuring OTIF requirements are achieved.

  • Review MRP requirements and make informed decisions from outcome. This will include the push out and pull in of demand driven by the planning system.

  • Undertake operational tasks as required e.g. proactively expedite orders to ensure there is no impact to operational and end customer demand.

  • With a full understanding of our subcontractor capabilities, issue Requests for Quotations in line with business demand for current or new business opportunities.

  • Contribute and lead supplier negotiations for both current and new business.

  • Ensure all purchasing activities are completed in a controlled and professional manner in line with the demands of the business.

  • Lead the development of suppliers in line with the needs of the business with specific focus on Growth and Innovation.

  • Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required.

  • Establish and maintain supplier development programs to ensure optimal performance, and chair cross functional Quarterly Business Review meetings with key suppliers.

  • Support the Purchasing Manager with the selection and development of preferred suppliers and collaborative partnerships

  • Interface with other departments to resolve problems.

  • Implement plans to mitigate risk in the supply chain.

    · Hold MCIPS or working towards MCIPS Level 4/5.


  • · Computer literate and competent with MS Office.

    · Working knowledge of MRP systems.

    · Diligent and well organised.

    · Good negotiation skills.

    Desirable

    · Degree in a business related topic (engineering, business etc).

    · Minimum 3 years in a commodity or senior buying role.

    · Strong leadership and motivational skills.

    · Ability to read engineering drawings.

    · Experience in writing and implementing Frame / Supply Agreements.

    · An engineering background / qualification.

    · Experience of working in the Aerospace industry with specific exposure of purchasing of electronic components, printed circuit board assemblies, machining, fabrication.
