Full Job Description

As a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in leading and managing geotechnical projects from conception to completion. You will utilize your expertise to provide technical guidance, conduct analyses, and deliver practical solutions to complex geotechnical challenges. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute your insights to ensure the successful delivery of projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

This role can be based from either our Exeter office, or Birmingham office. You are open to discussing hybrid working but you must have a full UK right to work to be considered for this post.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Project Management:

  • Lead geotechnical investigations, feasibility studies, and site assessments.


  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and ensure adherence to timelines and financial objectives.


  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to facilitate project approvals and permits.


  • Technical Analysis and Design:

  • Conduct geotechnical analysis, including slope stability assessments, foundation design, and soil-structure interaction analyses.


  • Utilize advanced software and tools to model complex geotechnical systems and evaluate engineering solutions.


  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, drawings, and specifications in accordance with industry standards and best practices.


  • Quality Assurance and Risk Management:

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of geotechnical data and analyses.


  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with projects and develop mitigation strategies to address them effectively.


  • Review and evaluate project deliverables to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and client expectations.


  • Mentorship and Leadership:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, consultants, and support staff.


  • Enable a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and professional development.

    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or related field / time served experience

  • Master's degree preferred.


  • Experience
  • Min 6 years experience working within a consultancy environment


  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio, FLAC) a


  • Familiarity with CAD and GIS tools., Excellent communication skills; Verbal & Written

  • Ability to work independently from home and at the office

  • Full UK driving licence and own transport

  • Full right to work in the UK
