Full Job Description

Located on the outskirts of the rural market town of Newent; about 10 miles north-west of Gloucester city, and with magnificent 38-acre site and impressive sports facilities, Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Geography. Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre is an 11-18 comprehensive academy with c 1150 students currently on roll.

The successful candidate will support the Geography team by sharing and modelling the school's vision and values in everyday work and practice. The Geography Department prides itself on its rich extra-curricular programme, as well as its classroom practice. It is a very popular choice at GCSE with five groups in both Year 10 and Year 11, and stable numbers at A Level; some going on to study Geography at degree level. It is very much a department where collaboration is valued and support is provided to all colleagues. All lessons and homework are planned with adaptive strategies included.

Those applicants with experience would be involved in a discussion at interview to show how they can develop and motivate staff, setting high expectations, contributing to rigorous and on-going self-evaluation and taking responsibility for leading specific areas/initiatives to secure further school wide improvements. Those new to the profession can expect a fully structured support programme for the duration of their induction period. They can expect to benefit from mentors who are experienced and accredited in delivering the Early Career Framework as well as excellent internal and external CPD provision from a school which was designated Lead Partner School for ECT mentoring and training by the University of Gloucestershire.

Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre has a strong team spirit and a passion for creating an inclusive learning environment, which enables the holistic development of all students. We promote exemplary relationships at all levels and strive for outstanding outcomes. All staff and students are valued highly. We are committed to developing individuals and working with them to reach their full potential. Emphasis on staff wellbeing is an integral part of our culture and we provide an outstanding working environment. All staff are firmly committed to ensuring that every student achieves their full potential.

You are encouraged to contact the school to arrange an informal visit if you would like an opportunity to see the facilities for yourself at the school. I hope that having read the details from the school, and hopefully also seen the work we do here for yourself, you decide to apply for this post. If that is the case, I would like to thank you in advance for the time required for such an application and look forward to reading your letter in due course.

Applications should be indicated by letter, detailing your experience to date and outlining your skills against the Job Description. There is a requirement to submit a fully completed application form with your letter.

The closing date for this role is Thursday 2nd May, with interviews expected to take place on the following week. However, please note that where the school receives an exceptional response, shortlisting and interviews may be arranged prior to the closing date by mutual agreement.
