Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint a teacher of Science to join our team of inspirational teachers in September 2024. The Science Faculty at The Knights Templar School is a thriving team of 11 teachers, well supported by 4 Science Technicians. We have become one of the strongest subject areas at KTS, made possible by the stability of our team over recent years. We are based in our state-of-the-art Science Centre, which we moved into in Autumn 2016. The team are very forward thinking and proactive in researching and trialling new strategies to improve what we do. Science is a popular subject area with students and is promoted extensively by staff, students, parents and trustees both within the curriculum and by extra-curricular activities.

The successful applicant will be able to deliver high quality teaching and learning and have a clear focus on the achievement of young people. The post would be an excellent opportunity for either an ECT or an experienced teacher with the ability to teach at A level.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Believes in young people and is willing to devote time to help them develop.

  • Is dynamic, innovative and inspirational in the classroom.

  • Is keen to work alongside an established, highly motivated team.

  • Is passionate about their subject and willing to share this with their students.

  • Ensures all students succeed and are able to achieve their maximum potential.

  • Has the ability to teach outstanding lessons across the age range.

  • Is committed to raising standards of attainment.

  • Sets high expectations of themselves and their students.

  • Is understanding of the barriers some students face when learning our subject.

  • In return we will offer you:

  • ECTs at Knights Templar will receive full support in their induction year and will benefit from our outstanding coaching and mentoring programme.

  • An excellent range of CPD opportunities for staff.

  • A professional, hardworking and supportive team of staff with the capability and desire to raise student achievement even further

  • An environment where creativity and innovation in the classroom is encouraged

  • Stability among teaching and support staff which brings both experience and commitment to our school community

  • Supportive trustee body and a senior leadership team that encourages a large degree of autonomy for middle leaders

  • Enthusiastic students who are willing to learn and are proud of their learning environment

  • A community school in the historic market town of Baldock, 33 miles north of London, within 30-40 minutes of both Cambridge and London by road or train.

  • Extra-curricular sporting/musical facilities for staff

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Discounted Sports Centre Membership

  • Cycle to work scheme

  • In April 2023, Ofsted graded the school as "good" and they commented that 'Pupils want to succeed. They work hard in lessons and enjoy their subjects. They learn and achieve well. This includes the older students in the sixth form.'

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Closing date: 9am, Monday, 13th May 2024 (early interviews may be offered).
