Full Job Description

As the SRO Assistant Environment Manager, you will work across the Thames Water Strategic Resource Options (SRO) project portfolio which comprises c.£5bn to £6bn of investment over multiple AMPs to improve resilience to drought whilst protecting the environment.

You will be part of the Client team responsible for ensuring that the projects' requirements and outputs are aligned with the needs of the Water Resource Southeast regional plan and our Water Resource Management Plan.

The initial focus will be on the Southeast Strategic Resource Option (SESRO) reservoir and London Water Recycling scheme, as they are developed through the gated process specified by the alliance of regulators (known as RAPID).

As the projects proceed further through the regulatory process, the focus will be on developing the specifications and design principles to support the planning consent and procurement processes.

The role will assist the SRO Portfolio Environment Managers in setting industry-leading, project and programme standards. You will work closely with the Environment Managers, the Sustainability Manager and the Carbon Manager to assist in ensuring the projects meet the sponsor's requirements.

What you'll be doing as an Assistant Environment Manager?

+ Provide environmental management advice and oversight for initial works on site, such as ground investigations, trials and other associated preliminary works.
+ This is to include oversight of planning for these works, specifying environmental requirements for them, review of associated environmental documents (such as planning applications and consent applications produced by the supply chain), and environmental audit of the site-based works.
+ Assist in the environmental de-risking of the projects and develop appropriate mitigation.
+ Help produce and procure the required environmental deliverables.
+ Typically including regulatory, sustainability and biodiversity requirements.
+ Input into the SRO Portfolio team's environmental assurance function.
+ This will be a full-time role, although flexible working requests will be considered.
+ The base location will either be our offices in South London or our Head office in Reading. It is a hybrid-working role and there will be a requirement for regular site visits across the Thames Water area, including Abingdon and London where the main sites are located.

+ Educated to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate Environmental / Science discipline.
+ Significant post-qualification experience ideally with relevant experience in a utility industry.
+ Experience in environmental management and supervision of site works.
+ Knowledge of the environmental planning and consenting processes would be an advantage.
+ Good knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation and guidance.
+ Good communication and influencing skills.
+ Self-motivated and comfortable working in a matrix delivery environment.
+ Relevant experience in the environment and sustainability field.
+ Ability to identify project requirements identify gaps in project scope and appropriately raise them.
+ Proactive approach and ability to adapt to changing scenarios to solve problems.
+ Full UK driver's licence.

+ Competitive salary between £40,000 & £60,000 depending on previous experience.
