Full Job Description

Working in a fast-paced team for the Finance Manager EMEA, the VAT & Compliance Accountant will be expected to own and manage the compliance activities of the EMEA entities.

This role is based at our Cobbs Lane office but requires working one day per week at our Jamestown Road office in Camden, London.

As our VAT & Compliance Accountant you will be responsible for:

  • Ensure timely submission and compliance with indirect tax returns (e.g., VAT, Intrastat) and financial statistical returns, while liaising with third-party service providers and tax advisors to meet local requirements.

  • Assist in implementing, maintaining, and improving robust month-end processes and internal controls to meet the demands of a rapidly growing business, coordinating tasks with colleagues overseeing Continental Europe entities.

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly balance sheets to a high standard, addressing any issues with the wider business, and post monthly journals in line with internal reporting deadlines.

  • Provide VAT and compliance support to wider business projects, ensuring proper understanding of VAT impacts for compliance, including registration/deregistration administration, and completing User Acceptance Testing for changes to the accounting system.

  • Promote a culture of best practice across EMEA, identifying and flagging any issues, risks, or opportunities to the Head of Tax, striving to create efficiencies in day-to-day working practices, and providing cover and assistance to the wider finance team as needed.

Hold a recognized qualified accountancy/tax qualification with technical competencies, including experience in preparing and reviewing VAT returns.

  • Possess strong knowledge of intrastat returns, EC Sales lists, and their relationship with VAT returns, alongside familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics (D365), retail, multi-currency, multi-site operations, and European subsidiaries.

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of business structure and the significance of accurate nominal ledger postings, coupled with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

  • Exhibit strong investigatory, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail, while working under tight deadlines within a small team and assisting colleagues as needed.

  • Display a proactive approach to work, aiming to streamline processes for increased productivity, and exhibit strong communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues in Continental Europe to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.
